Cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. The ultrasound produces a strong wave of pressure against the fat cell membranes. A fat cell membrane can not withstand this pressure and therefore disintegrates into a liquid state. Once the cell membrane is disrupted, fat in the form of triglycerides is released into the interstitial space between the cells, where they are metabolised to glycerol and free fatty acids. Water-soluable glycerol is absorbed by the circulatory system and used as an energy source, where as the insoluble free fatty acids are transported to the liver and processed as fatty acids from food.
Cavitation is a treatment for deeper subcutaneous fat. It is most suitable for clients with at least 3cm of fat looking for inch loss treatments. Excellent treatment areas are the abdomen, flanks (muffin tops), legs and buttocks.
Although results are seen from the first treatment, a course of 6-8 weekly treatments is recommended for maximal results.
