Fungal nails present as a discoloured nails with patches or streaks of white, yellow or brown and these nails often look thickened to nobecome quite rmal nail and often crumbly.

Laser Therapy is used to treat onychomycosis (fungal nail infection). The infection enters the nail and grows, causing the nail to become discoloured, brittle and thickened. Once a fungal infection is present in a nail it becomes very difficult to remove.

The current therapies of treatment include:

– Nail paints/tinctures that require a rigorous treatment regime which has a very low success rate.
– Oral tablets which do have good results however can cause unwanted and severe side effects.

Laser treatment can be an effective way to treat toenail fungus: Clinical research trials show laser treatment success being as high as 90% with multiple treatments, whereas current prescription therapies are about 50% effective.

How Laser treatment works

A laser beam is directed at the nail, generating heat that destroys the fungus living inside the nail. The laser targets the fungal areas without damaging the surrounding tissue. The laser has no known side effects and only requires 2 to 3 treatments spread out over a period of 3 months. For full results to be seen it can take up to 12 months, as success of the laser treatment is reliant on nail growth. In fact, many patients experience significant improvement in just 2 months after initial treatment.

Benefits

Laser treatment can have a success rate of up to 80%. It can help return nails to their normal color and thickness.

Procedure

During the laser treatment, a laser beam will be slowly directed across the nail bed. The laser beam will generate heat beneath the nail and within the underlying fungal colony. You will feel a warm sensation during the procedure which lasts 1-2 minutes per toenail.

At Adorn Laser Clinic we treat all your toe nails, even those that don’t seem infected, as we don’t want to risk the fact that even the slightest infection undetectable by the naked eye can lead to reinfection.

The procedure is relatively pain free and takes about 15 minutes per foot and are relatively pain free. You can usually return to your normal activities immediately after each session.

Recovery

You can expect to need at least two treatments, spaced 5–6 weeks apart. It can take up to 12 months to see full results. This non invasive procedure does not require any local anaesthesia and there is no ‘recover period’, so you can wear socks and shoes immediately after the treatment. With no side effects and no visible harm to the treated nail or skin, laser nail therapy is truly an innovation in the way toenail fungus is treated.
